Remember the Reason for the Season

December 25, 2016

The packages are wrapped and under the tree. Meal preparation is well underway, family and friends will be arriving within a few hours. You think about trying to shower before the kids get up, because you know it will be another busy day. You've spent too much and slept too little since the beginning of November.  You loved Christmas in earlier years, but now can't wait till it's over.

Or, maybe you lost someone you loved dearly this year by death or separation.  Maybe a spouse, a child, a parent or significant other, and have never felt this kind of pain before.  They may have been young or just started to become the young man or woman you had hoped they would.  They may have been sick or elderly and you've spent a great deal of time with them throughout your life.  They may have tragically left this earth too soon.

My twenty-four year old son Ryan was becoming the man we had hoped.  He was a blessing, caring, loving, respectful, well mannered, responsible, always had that twinkle in his eye, and loved by many.  Ryan loved Chistmas, but little did we know 2015 would be his last. Ryan was murdered near Clemson University in South Carolina.

Ryan knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior from a young age and we know through God's word will be reunited with him again.  "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son", John 3:16-18.  We were blessed to conceive Ryan after eight years and thankful we had twenty-four years with him - he was a blessing.

Remember Christmas is in celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Please share the Christmas joy knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior with those you love this holiday season.

Merry Christmas Ryan, we love and miss you!
